Field Artillery, Signal and Engineer troops were supplied as support personnel as required. The estimated number of exposed personnel is 12,056.

Unlike Viet Nam, exposure to Agent Orange is not presumed for veterans who served in Korea. Claims for compensation for disabilities resulting from Agent Orange exposure from veterans who served in Korea during this period will be developed for evidence of exposure. If the veteran was exposed the presumptive conditions found for Agent Orange exposure apply.

Now what that means is that it makes it very difficult and possibly impossible to provide enough "evidence" to convince the VA that one was in the area that allowed for exposure. The VA will attempt to locate the appropriate evidence through their rules and guidelines, but in the request for records to support where you were, many times those records cannot be found, wrong results sent back for any of a number of reasons or the records are simply no longer available or were never processed and retained.

It is extremely important that you try to obtain anything that will support your claim and that you were in the area where herbicide was used yourself. Don't count on them being able to get them, do your own work to insure a better opportunity to win your claim, especially if you fall within the Field Artillery, Signal and Engineer troops that were supplied as support since those are the veterans that will have the most difficult time proving their claims.

Remember, these VA processors are paid bonuses for cases handled and closed They are also under a time schedule to close the cases. While they may want to help, they also want to close obviously. So your having what you need to prove your claim will result in them being less likely to close because the Joint Services Records Research Center (JSRRC) failed to find a "personal" connection located in the unit records showing you were where you say you were.
